so yesterday, in an effort to keep our day as busy and full as possible, we took an outing to the library. prior to our arrival at said library, i was teaching annie about being quiet and using our "quiet library voices". it helps that she has some pretty serious public shyness, because she didn't say a word for the first 20 minutes we were there. once she did though, she was being very quiet - like if she spoke loud enough for anyone to hear she would be banished from the library forever. that would not do. we sat back in the children's area and i sat on a chair 4 inches off the ground while annie paid no attention to me, but instead spent an hour staring at the other mother and kids in the room. it was actually pretty funny - mostly to that other mother, i'm sure - as i sat there reading books to myself while my daughter stared at her reading to her kids. i think she wanted to join them. no, what i really think is she wanted two things: 1.) access to the rocking chair the woman was sitting in and 2.) access to the giant box of toys, puppets, etc. that her kids were claiming as their own. i can't wait until the day when annie finds that strength within to approach kids like that and start playing with them - i think it'll be so great...and bittersweet, because there is that selfish part of me that likes that she wants to be close to me. i know, i know. i'll get over it, but i can still like it.
so anyway, we leave the library with our "new" books and we get into the car and the whole ride home annie is holding her finger to her mouth and saying "Quiet Library" (see above photo) and i'm just giggling to myself because it's cute and then, apparently, she wanted this to be a two-way conversation because pretty soon she was yelling "QUIET LIBRARY!!", which just made me laugh out loud because THAT is humor, my friends.
meanwhile, jasper is giving me a run for my money these days. ever since his shots he has been mr. cranky crabbypants and i'll have none of it. i mean, look at this. it's horrible, isn't it? seriously though, he really has become something of a mama's boy. i can't put him down for 5 seconds or he starts crying. he cried for an hour this afternoon. cry, sleep for 5 minutes, cry, sleep, cry, etc. it's really quite irritating because it is so out of character for him. i don't know what gives, but i hope it ends soon. between that and annie waking at 2am only to travel upstairs to my room again at 2:30am, and then sleep (read: snore/stop breathing) with me in my bed only to have jasper wake again at 5...well, let's just say i can't do much more of this 3 hours of sleep a night crap. we should be beyond that by now, kids. come on, get it together!
ok - annie's actually napping. yay. must go do more before she wakes up. peace out.
